Pitching In: New Mexico teachers receive rugs from American Home Furniture and Mattress
Aug. 29—American Home donates $20,000 in rugs to teachers
Locally owned furnishing company American Home Furniture and Mattress this month donated over 200 rugs to teachers across New Mexico, according to a news release. The rugs are valued at more than $20,000.
Additionally, American Home donated nine pallets of sheets to the Oliver Rigby Foundation, based in Albuquerque, that will be distributed to animal shelters and other groups in need, the release said.
"Teachers are an under-recognized group of people that make a profound difference on our young people and the future of the state," American Home CEO Kenton Van Harten said in a statement. "We are honored to recognize them this way, and our hope is every time they look at their new rug, they know how much we appreciate them."
La Familia Health gives kids backpacks filled with supplies
La Familia Health donated hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies at an annual event earlier this month at its Southside Clinic in Santa Fe, according to a news release.
Roughly 350 backpacks were donated to the 750 parents and children in attendance, the release said. The event also offered free health and dental screenings for students and stylists from Vogue College of Cosmetology offered complimentary haircuts.
The backpacks were donated to La Familia Health for distribution by Walmart, Sam's Club and Guadalupe Federal Credit Union.
"La Familia Health strives to make health care available to the many in the community who need it and serve as the safety net for the uninsured who comprise more than 40% of our patient population," La Familia CEO Julie Wright said in a statement.
